Not to mention how much I adored this hero! :) Anyway, after a long long wait Jessie Davidson's story is finally available. Jessie is the heroine in Jane Millionaire's sister--yes, the one always getting into trouble. :)

Wow! Time flies by when you are having fun--and I have been lately. :) With my second child now in college (How did that happen when I know he is still my baby!???), life has also been very busy. Wow. Can't believe how long its been since I've posted on my blog. Guess with the FACEBOOK wave, blogging has taken a bit of a backseat. At least for me. I do post fairly regularly on my FACEBOOK account, so definitely for routine updates on me and my crazy life, that's definitely the place to stay in touch.

Since last posting here, I've had several books to come out. :) The Nurse Who Saved Christmas, The Doctor's Damsel in Distress, and Flirting with the Society Doctor. :) You can find them on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and such places for download or purchase. I am on a computer where I dont have easy access to covers and links, but will try to come back in the near future and post them. You buy that, right? I mean it has only been almost a year since I last posted here. ;) Seriously, I will try to do better. :)

I still have my Matthew McConnaughey obsession. The man does have a yummy chest and abs after all. I have changed jobs and am back in family medicine, which I love. After a very emotional 2010, life is good again.

Anyway, that's a quick update on me. Hope all is well and God bless!

This is my first Christmas story and was lots of fun to try to capture the magic of Christmas while writing a Medical Romance. Yea! I got copies of my October release in the mail and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this cover! This book was a challenge for me to write in many ways as I had to do LOTS of military research. I still worry that I may have gotten things incorrect, but am hoping my readers fall so in love with Cole and Amelia that they'll forgive any OOPS I may have inadvertantly made.

So excited that this book is finally out! Well, it's currently available in the UK in stores everywhere and it's available online at the Mills & Boon website. It'll be available in the US in just a few days via www.eharlequin.com where it'll be on sale for the month of June.

Lots of exciting things going on in my life! I'm loving my new job working for a Pulmonology group. It's great to be learning so many new things and to be stepping outside my comfort zone and finding out that sometimes that can be a great thing. In April I'm going to the School of Sleep Medicine in Atlanta and am looking forward to expanding my noggin power even more. :)

On the writing front, Cole and Amelia's story (my military medical romance) is now titled Officer, Surgeon...Gentleman. Is that not just the coolest title??? LOVE IT. It's scheduled for a UK release date of August 2010 (hardback) and October 2010 (paperback). I'm not sure on US and other country release dates yet. Sorry. My Christmas story is completed and turned in, also. It's tentatively titled The Nurse's Sexy Santa, but I'm not sure they'll keep that. We'll see. It'll be a October 2010 hardback release and a December 2010 paperback release in the UK. Again, not sure on US and other countries.

As of right now, you can still purchase copies of Playboy Surgeon, Top-Notch Dad. It's listed at eharlequin as Playboy Heart Surgeon, Top-Notch Dad. You can google my name and pull this up, or just click HERE and it'll take you directly to where the book is for sale at Harlequin. I'm getting really excited about the RWA National Conference being held in Nashville this year. So excited that several of my dear friends are going to be visiting my home state! Especially my pals Anna & Keith Sugden who I'm going to take for a tour of my hometown in exchange for a London tour...not really a fair exchange, eh? ;)

Hey all! I have lots of news to share! First off, I'm in the process of changing jobs. I'm leaving family practice to join a pulmologist. I think this is going to be a good move for my family, but definitely keep us in your prayers!! Next, I've sold FOUR more books to Harlequin! Yea! I'm very excited about this. Two of these books will be out later this year and the second two will be out in 2011. :) I'm really excited about the two releases for later this year. One is a military medical that I hope I haven't completely botched as I adore the characters! and the other is my first Christmas story. There's just something magical about Christmas and I hope I capture that in this romance. :) The other two, well, I'm having lots of fun with the one. The hero is just something else! and the fourth one is going to be another military romance. So, I am very, very excited about all these things going on! :)

I also wanted to update you on my upcoming appearances. The first coming up on my current schedule is The HEART OF DIXIE Readers luncheon. This is a fabulous opportunity for readers and booksellers and librarians to meet authors, have lunch with them, and then attend a booksigning afterwards. I always have lots of fun at these and hope if you're in the Huntsville, Alabama area (or can travel!) that you'll attend! :) I've posted the information below with links. :)

Woo-hoo! I'm excited. One of my favorite books has just been released. Why one of my favorites? Because I was feeling particularly inspired while writing this book and will always love the hero. Oz is just that kind of guy. :) Of course, I purposely chose the name Oz because just the name makes me think of fantasy worlds where anything is possible.

Wow! Time sure has gone by quickly this year. Quick catch-up on me.

I'm blogging over at eharlequin about Christmas ornaments on December 7th but the post is already live. Here's a quick picture of some of the homemade & special ornaments on my family tree.

My kids have been busy. James is playing basketball and the season is going full swing. So far they've won all their games. Jessie & Jacob recently were in The Crucible. Jessie played Reverend Parris and Jacob played Farmer Nurse. Farmer Nurse got out of costume before I got his picture, but here's one of Reverend Parris.

And prior to this Reverend Parris celebrated his 18th birthday, which his mother has mixed feelings about.

I gave my grandmother a copy of The Nurse's Baby Miracle (my October release!) as it's dedicated to her and 10/30 was her 61st wedding anniversary. And then there was Halloween.
In October, Abby & I went to see our pals Kath & Annie. While there we went to the Statue of Liberty and the Cape May lighthouse, among other fabulous things.

Yea! I've been waiting for what seems like forever for this book to be released! It holds such a dear place in my heart and is so appropriate to be released during October. The Nurse's Baby Miracle is set at a 3 day 60 mile breast cancer fundraiser walk in Atlanta. If you've been reading my blog a while, you'll likely recall that I participated in a 3 day 60 mile breast cancer walk. The air there just sizzled with excitement and I always knew I'd write a book set at a walk. The story just had to be the right story and the characters just had to be the right characters, though. Not just any would work for a setting so near and dear to me. Caleb and Natalie are those characters and theirs is a love story that I hope you will love as much as I do. :)

The story is available readily overseas at most everywhere, but here in the US the easiest place to get your copy is by ordering it from Amazon. Right now it's available for around $14. There are 3 stories in the book and an introduction from the fabulous Penny Jordan--yes, THE PENNY JORDAN, and yes, I get a little light-headed every time I see that cover with her name and my name. WOW. Totally a pinch worthy moment. She's so fabulous!

Life has been busy with getting the kids back to school, working in my garden, finishing up a book, and all the normal routine life things. Time sure does go by fast, but not so fast as to not have a little fun along the way. Here's a few pictures from things I did over the summer.

Eek. Internet is particularly slow tonight so will have to add more pics later. This was from our trip to the Hiwassee River in East Tennessee where we floated down the rive on inner tubes. My youngest and I got to see a bald eagle swoop down and catch a fish. That was very cool! And the scenery as you can see was just gorgeous!

My friend Lindsey Brookes is quite stylish with her Possum Purse. Yes, I did make it for her. Yes, really. I'd tell you not to ask, but well, you would anyway, right? Let's just say it was a gift to make her smile--and it definitely got folks' attention at conference. Despite my 10 year old suggesting I quit my day job to stay home and make possum purses to sell on ebay, I have no plans to do so, which leaves Lindsey's purse as an one of a kind original Janice Lynn creation--which should have Prada breathing a sigh of relief. ;)Kathleen Long, Lindsey Brookes, & Janice Lynn with the Possum Purse in the lobby lounge. These ladies are two of my bestest buds in the whole wide world! That says it all, doesn't it?? No, really, we're on the right floor.

While at conference I attended some fab workshops. The best of the bunch (no, I'm not biased--much. ;) was moderated by the great Anna Sugden and given by Beth Andrews, Kathleen Long, and Harlequin Blaze Senior Editor Brenda Chin. Before the Rita/Golden Heart Award ceremony a bunch of us went to a restaurant in the hotel to eat. Unfortunately it took forever to get our food. I was supposed to be downstairs at 7:15 and I didn't leave the restaurant until 7!!! On the plus side I had absolutely no time to stress over make-up and hair--although perhaps I should have, eh? LOL.

Two of my favorite people who traveled a LONG way to attend conference! My dear pal Tawny Weber wasn't able to attend conference this year (who needs a new house? I mean, really???) and we missed her so much! During the conference we video conferenced with Tawny. Wasn't as good as real life, but was fun talking to her! Back to the Harlequin Party--can you tell I had lots of fun there??

2009 RWA National conference

I had the privilege of attending the 2009 Romance Writers of America National Conference in Washington DC. Due to time constraints, I'm only posting pics from the Harlequin party on Friday evening at the Ritz Carlton. LOTS OF FUN. You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words? Well, here's my way of meeting my word count for the day. ;)

Happy 40th Anniversary!!

Today my parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Forty years. Wow. When I think of it, it doesn't seem like they should have been married that long but since I'm 38 I suppose they should, eh? Unfortunately a family member's brother was killed in a tractor accident and his funeral was today, so it was a day of mixed emotions. My sister and I did take my parents out to eat at Cracker Barrel after church tonight and we gave them a card and gift certificate. Everyone except my brother and his two kids were there, so we had a huge table, laughed lots, and enjoyed our time together. It was nice to spend time with family. Wish I had pics, but my sister was the one who took pictures tonight. I'll have to get copies from her.

While we were there my daughter bought a stuffed possum--but that's another story altogether. ;)

We played our first All Star game yesterday and lost. We play again tomorrow night. Wish us luck! :)

Locks of Love

Yesterday, my daughter made her fourth donation to Locks of Love, putting her at just over four feet of hair donated. I'm so proud of her!! :)The last picture was taken this morning prior to her leaving for 4-H camp for the week. :)

It's Saturday. I'm sitting outside. I have no idea what the temperature is, but it is so gorgeous here! Part of me isn't ready to go home tomorrow. Another really misses my family. Perhaps I should just get them to come to Florida instead of going home....it's an idea, but I don't suppose it's one that will pay the bills, eh?

RT has been great again this year--when's it not, right? I love interacting with readers, booksellers, aspiring authors, authors, reviewers, and publishing professionals. Oh, and the cover models. I am human after all. :)

Mini-vacation

This past weekend I went on a mini-vacation with the kids & friends. We packed at lot into our time in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Was lots of fun. :)

This was the underside of one of the sharks that swam over us while we were touring in the underwater shark tunnels. If you've never visited the Aquarium in Gatlinburg I highly recommend it. I've been in various aquariums from coast-to-coast and by far the one in Gatlinburg is my favorite. :)Racecar driving!
A sign that made me smile everytime we drove past so I had Jessie jump out and take a picture. It sill makes me smile. :)We did lots of other fun stuff like lazertag, Old Time photos, Arcade, cardplaying at the cabin, etc, too. :)

2009 Catch-up

Time sure does get away, doesn't it? I can't believe it's been since November since I did a real post. Ack. Christmas was fab. Everyone was healthy and home and that's what's most important. We had my office Christmas party at our house this year. That was stressful, but lots of fun. If I said that it turned into a pajama party with four of us sitting up to the wee hours playing cards, that would just raise a lot of questions, wouldn't it? So I won't mention the pajamas. ;)

My oldest son has done another play since my last post. This one was with his high school drama club. They did a series of bad date scenarios. I have to say I liked this one much, much better than the last one they did which was about a high school shooting.

My second oldest son has gotten his driver's learning permit. Yes, I now have more gray hairs than red/blond. I keep wondering how it is possible that my babies are growing up so quickly.

On the writing front, there's lots going on. I just finished--tonight/this morning--the last book of my current Harlequin contract. Well, finished the version that will be turned in. Hopefully, my editor will find ways to make the final version even better. I really like this hero--okay, so I always like the heroes, but I really do. Blair's pretty cool, too. I'd tell you more but then I'd have to kill you so...just kidding, but I really can't tell you more yet. :)

I have a February release in the United Kingdom. Surgeon Boss, Surprise Dad. This book will be available in the US in March via www.eharlequin.com. I'll try to remember to post a link at that time.

I had a book signing at the Manchester library where I got to see my pal, Trish Milburn. She was signing copies of her first Harlequin and had the ARC for her first YA. Very cool!!

In May, I have an online read at eharlequin. I'm excited and a little intimidated by that. Y'all be sure to stop by and say hi.

In July, I'm doing a booksigning in Washington DC where I'll be attending the RWA national conference. The thing I look forward to most is seeing my friends. :)

We went to watch Jessie in his latest play today. Here's a few pictures. It's hard to get good ones as there is no flash photography, so excuse the blurs. :) He played Young Roland, the clothesmakers' son. It was a lead role and the male love interest. :) I am very proud of him.

And although it was The Emperor's New Clothes this afternoon, it's Honky Tonk Angels tonight. He worked the stage lights--which he now has a new respect for. Honky Tonk Angels is the first play he's done where he's not on the stage and it's been a great learning experience for him.

Football, Halloween, & speech

My youngest plays youth league football. He's number 3 for the Eagles. :) He loves playing. I'm not a huge football fan, but I know he's the offensive center & is moved around on defense. The first pic has him getting ready to pass the ball back at the beginning of the down. :)

In this picture he's playing defensively and is tied up with 8, but I believe is looking at the kid running the ball (10 on the Cowboys). I really have lots of fun watching him play (also a few nerve wrecking moments at the hits & falls). His team hasn't done so well this year--they've only won one game--but he's had lots of fun!

On Friday, my daughter had to give a speech at school while dressed as the person she was giving the speech on. She was Ruth Bader Ginsberg. :) I was so proud of her!!

I mentioned my Fall fun/Halloween party over at www.writersatplay.com/wordpress, and thought I'd post a few pictures from that night. I remembered to take pictures right as people were starting to arrive and right as everyone was leaving. Brilliant. I know. :)

I got my hardcover author copies to Surgeon Boss, Surprise Dad. Although the paperback version isn't out until February 2009, the hardcover edition is release two months earlier--December 2008, in this case. :) This cover is a first for me. The first to have a kid on it. The guy is hot, but I'm undecided on the kid. I've never really thought about it until now, but I don't tend to buy a lot of books with kids on the cover unless it's an author I know I enjoy. What about you? Do kids on the cover or a romance novel appeal or not?

Well, I'm not really going to catch up. I never do. Fall is such a busy time of year for me and my family. Currently we are in the midst of soccer season for 2 kids, football for 1 kid, 2 plays for 1 kid, basketball for 1 kid, and then all the normal stuff--karate, boy scouts, clubs, etc. My daughter isn't taking piano right now due to her sports' stuff interfering with times. Plus there's all that back to school stuff that goes on. Are you tired yet? No? Well, let me keep going. ;)

I'm currently revising two medical romances. I think one will be a late 2009 release and the other an early 2010 release. I'm working on a single title project, also. And my agent is gearing up to shop a different single title project later this year. Did I mention that I also work full time?

I also had my 20 year high school reunion last month. So difficult to believe that 20 years have passed since graduation. I mean, I still feel like a teenager, why isn't my body behaving and looking like one???? ;) It was great seeing old friends who I rarely get to see, particularly my pal Tori. :)

Anyway, life is good. Everyone is healthy and busy. But I'm not making it over here as often as I'd like. The important thing is that I am writing on my books though. That's what most of you are most interested in based on fan mail--when's the next book? And to answer that question--the hardback of Surgeon Boss, Surprise Dad comes out in December & the paperback version will be released in February. :) Yea! That book is one that's very dear to my heart. Yes, I know, they all are, but some more so than others. Of my Medicals, The Heart Surgeon's Secret Son and Surgeon Boss, Surprise Dad are my two favorites. Probably because of the emotion in those books. That said, I think y'all will enjoy The Nurse's Baby Miracle, too. It'll be out in late spring 2009. :) That one is set at a 3 day breast cancer walk. Yes, I did draw upon that horrendous (but also good) experience I went through in 2006 when I did the 3 day walk with my fab-o agent, Deidre Knight. I like that book because of the setting--and the characters.

For those of you who have emailed asking about the puppies--they are fabulous. We only kept one of them, but our next door neighbor also kept one, so really we get to see & play with 2 of them. The kids LOVE our puppy. They named him TROUBLE. For those of you who know me, we had a Jack Russell named Trouble who died the week after we moved into our new house last summer. I had mixed feelings on naming the puppy after him, but all 4 kids agreed on the name and it's so rare for all 4 to agree, well, you understand. :) So, our new Trouble is half Jack Russell, half Chuawawa (I have no idea how to spell that, but sound it out please). Surprisingly, he's cute. ;)

Hopefully it won't be a month before my next post, but priorities are priorities and the kiddos come first and when it comes to computer time, well, the writing comes first. I do tend to pop in frequently at my group blog though. My bestest pals are there and we have lots of fun with our playtime. :) www.writersatplay.com/wordpress We also do some fab give-aways. :)

2007 NRCA Winner!

On Thursday night of the conference I attended the National Readers' Choice Award ceremony. I sat with my editor and three other Harlequin Mills & Boon editors. Very dream like they popped the cork on a bottle of champagne & toasted me prior to the ceremony. When they announced The Doctor's Pregnancy Bombshell's category, it took a few seconds for it to register that they'd said the name of my book, my name. Holy samolie. Ever have one of those moments where your face gets all hot and your ears roar? Well, that was me. Completely stunned, I looked at my editor and she gave me a big smile. I'm surprised I didn't trip or fall on the way to the stage. I mean, jelly legs weren't meant to be walked on. While willing my jelly legs to keep moving me forward, I realized I had nothing written down to say. Nothing. I hadn't ever even decided not to write an acceptance speech. To make that decision is to actually mentally weigh whether or not you have a chance of winning. I'd never even thought of it. Really. I think I thanked all the right people without uhm-ing too much. Maybe.

I am quite enjoying having puppies. :) They were born on July 9th and I took these pics today. Such little darlings!!! We're still working out names as personalities emerge. All except the firstborn. She's Ashley, named after a friend whose birthday was also the 9th. :)All four of my babies. :)

Isn't she sweet? This is the 3rd puppy born. She's a total sweetheart & loves to be held close. :)

This little darling is the baby we'll most likely keep. No name yet although we're tossing out several and none have stuck yet. :)

This one is Ashley, the oldest. She's a little bit bigger and more active than the other three pups.

I'll have to be sure to get a good picture of the 4th boy in my next shots. Our next door neighbor is taking him so we'll still get to visit. :)

I can recall my dog having puppies when I was a small girl, but I'd never actually seen puppies being born before today. My dog Lilly went into labor this morning and has now had 4 puppies!! They are so precious. I've tried to share via email with some pals and it's just not working and we all know that I'm...challenged...when it comes to computer things. Very simply, I can't get the pics to shrink small enough for yahoo to allow me to post them. Ah, well. This way I can put several pics up at once.I'll post more later. I also cut my finger today & am having problems with doing much of anything. But aren't all the puppies wonderful? :)

Haircut

So I've worn my hair long for...years and years. I've been overdue for a trim for a long, long time. Last week I went to the salon and said "I'd like it layered all over and trim the ends please." When I looked in the mirror after she was finished I said, "Glad I didn't ask for a haircut." I'd be bald. So, I'm about 8 inches shorter than when I went in to the salon. Some trim, huh? ;) Trying to decide if I like it or not. I think dh is also trying to decide.

Woo hoo. THE DOCTOR'S PREGNANCY BOMBSHELL is a finalist in the NATIONAL READERS' CHOICE AWARD. I am soooooo thrilled that my debut Medical Romance has done so well.

I'm going to let you in on a secret...of all the Medicals I've written, I like that first one the least. I've tried to figure out why since it's the book that made a dream come true (to sell to Harlequin Mills & Boon). What I've discovered is that I put way too much of ME in that book. In some ways that heroine is me. Although bits and pieces of an author tends to filter out in a book, that one has too much of me in it for me to totally fall in love with it. Now, I really like THE HEART SURGEON'S SECRET SON, THE DOCTOR'S MEANT-TO-BE MARRIAGE, & SURGEON BOSS, SURPRISE DAD.

But with the NRCA final and Award of Excellence final, I have to say...this book is growing on me. :)

RT was so much fun, I'll likely be posting pictures for the next week and still not have shared all my favorites--okay, so most of my real favorites won't ever be seen in cyber space, but that's beside the point. :)

John Fish who won the popular vote by the conference attendees and the popular vote from the other contestants, was a really nice guy. When my friend asked him to hold up this sign for her daughter's myspace page, he was all smiles. I really do love his smile.
I honestly don't remember what Luke Walsh had just said to me that had me so tickled, but I do remember laughing so hard this particular night that my stomach muscles actually hurt. Some of these guys are just the real deal, ladies. This photograph of Luke doesn't do him justice. He has beautiful eyes and is one of those all around likable guys.

2008 Romantic Times Mr Romance Competition

When it comes to the RT conference most everyone's first question to me is about the Mr Romance Competition. Like in the past, this year's was awesome. Here's a picture of me with the contestants. :)
But let's face it, what everyone really wants to know is who won and did he deserve the title of Mr Romance 2008?

I have to say that I liked all but three of this year's contestants. One of them was just weird--enough said. One of them made me continuously think of zoolander. The other I just didn't think was sexy at all, but that's probably an individual preference kind of thing as he seemed like a really nice guy. I really never spent much time with him so he could have had a super personality and I missed out, so I'll take the blame for not making the effort where he's concerned.. The other six--I wish they all could have won. They were all wonderful & fun & romantic & I enjoyed meeting them. Unfortunately there were only five trophies and only one Mr. Romance 2008 title. But if I could award all six of the ones I liked titles/awards, I would. Wait, this is my blog. I can give them awards. :)

John Fish won the popular votes earning him two trophies. One was the contestants' choice, the other the RT participants' choice. Here's a picture of him with my pal Lindsey Brookes (in Hollywood night party clothes!)

Fred Williams was the first runner up. Fred sparkled. And looked a lot like Wesley Snipes. Fred was always smiling and having a great time I ever saw him. I really enjoyed meeting him.

One of my favorite contestants was James Gaskin. He was so cute and sweet. And he won second runner up!!

Okay, it has been brought to my attention that my Readers group isn't working correctly. I actually had problems with it when my website was redone that has since been corrected. What I didnt' realize was ALL my emails have been bouncing. Duh! I feel like such a ditz--no comment from my friends, please. So, I'm working on this trying to see what the problem is. I *think* it's where we moved last year and lots of my info--mainly my internet provider--changed. Anyway, I want to issue a huge apology to all who have tried adding to my readers group and gotten NO response. The emails were bouncing and very simply I never got them...I guess I just thought I was unloved. :( Or was so busy I didn't notice. Oops.

The problem is being worked on and once done I am going to do several give-aways so stick around please! :)

Dancing with the Stars

Last night, my sister and I took our parents to watch Dancing with the Stars. I've mentioned it here before, but I'm not much of a television person. I'd never seen a single episode. Yes, I live under a rock. But truth is, I hadn't. So my first Dancing with the Stars experience was live--which was actually way cool!

We bought our tickets because my Mom LOVES Helio & Julianna. I mean, she's ga-ga over them. Not quite in the way I USED to be over Matthew, but close.

We didn't get to meet Helio or Julianna in person, but we were fortunate enough to get to meet Brian Fortunaand Mark Ballas!And we got to meet Ednyta (sp?). She was totally amazing! All the dancers were. It was a really great show and made me wish I had an iota of their talent!We did get to see Helio several times when he and Julianna danced. My Mom was thrilled with he came out in his "bananna" suit. LOL. Here he is with Wayne Newton and Monica from High School Musical.

I may break down and watch Dancing with the Stars when the new season starts up in March...Actually I'm looking forward to it!

I can’t believe it!!! In two days only, exactly two days, my book will be up for sale at Cerridwen Press site. My first book. The book of my heart.
It all started ten years ago. In a different life, I was Director of the Analytical Division of an environmental company. I supervised a staff of chemists performing analytical tests and I worked on various government contracts. A monotonous predictable life that suddenly changed when I won a contract to refurbish a military laboratory in Belarus.
I traveled fifteen times to Minsk, capital of Belarus, and was well received by everyone. I worked with colonels and generals, chemists and engineers, and even journalists. I was invited to theirs homes and became friend with their wives. During the inauguration of the lab we were featured on their national TV. Needless to say, I fell in love with the country.
Five years later, I took an early retirement to write my first book, TO LOVE A HERO. Through my novel, a fictional story about an American chemist and a Belarussian officer, I lived again my fantastic trips to Belarus. My story highlights the hospitality and warmth of the gorgeous and gallant Belarussians officers who sing, toast with vodka and make a woman feel like a goddess.
The hero, Major General Sergei Fedorin, has pledged to cleanup his country of the nuclear pollution that killed his wife and threatens his nation with cancer. American aid allows him to start his mission by refurbishing an old military laboratory. The patriotic Sergei is a true hero in his country, an alpha man who protects millions of citizens, a controlled public figure, watched and scrutinized by everyone, admired and revered, but not allowed to breathe, or love, or live a personal life. He accepts it all because of his love for Belarus.
BUT…
When the lovely American chemist stumbles on the escalator of the airport straight into his arms, Sergei has more on his mind than nuclear pollution.
Raised in boarding schools, Cecile learned to fend for herself at an early age. She buried her loneliness under long hours of study and work. Now she’s determined to excel in her first international contract. So many people are watching over her shoulders: her boss at EAL; John Gordon, the government auditor who came with her to Belarus; the chauvinistic Belarussians officers; the treacherous Colonel Roussov who would go to any length to destroy Sergei; and especially Rob, her ex-fiancé, the sleaze ball who snatched her promotion at EAL. Nothing can detract her from her mission

In Belarus, a Russian country dominated by male chauvinism and intrigues, Cecile finds much more chemistry than she bargains for, and in the arms of General Sergei, she learns that chemicals are not the only things that can generate heat.
I had a lot of fun writing this book and I hope you will discover a new country and interesting culture while reading TO LOVE A HERO.
Some of my personal experiences are related in my book. I even included my fall on the broken escalator of the airport. I was rescued by my lab manager while my heroine (the smart woman) fell into the arms of a hero to die for, the handsome Major General Sergei who made her pulse race and stole her heart.
Writing a book is one thing. Have it published is another. During my journey to publication, I often pondered if it wasn’t easier to refurbish the lab in Belarus, struggle with the chauvinism of my foreign clients and pass the thin-comb inspections of government auditors.
I wrote my book in three months and spent four years editing it. I entered my manuscript in numerous contests and edited according to judges’ comments, submitted to innumerable critiques and edited according to CPs suggestions, requested help from wonderful mentors and edited according to pertinent advice, and I edited, and I edited…for months, for years, while trying to save the plot and create my voice.
I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel when TO LOVE A HERO garnered three full scores in the Wallflower contest for First Kiss, and the overall highest score. I won a critique by a famous literary agent who liked the story but said it would be tough to market because of the Russian setting. I heard similar remarks from various editors. One of them suggested I make my hero a Greek billionaire instead of a Russian General. Not the same. Not the same at all. I put my book on a shelf, saved it in a forgotten computer folder and worked on medical stories that finalled several times.
Last year at the FRW conference in Miami, Raelene Gorlinsky was sitting at a table waiting for the next writer to come and pitch her story. I stood at the door of the room admiring her adorable hat. No one showed up. A writer asked who was the lady with the hat. I said. “She’s Ellora’s Cave’s publisher.” Behind me the coordinator answered, “And Cerridwen Press’s. But her last one didn’t show up. Do you want to go?” That made me jump. I hadn’t planned to talk to Raelene and I didn’t have a pitch, but a minute later I sat in front of Ms. Gorlinsky trying to summarize the book of my heart. Raelene smiled, asked questions, and I relaxed.
A week later I sent my requested material to Cerridwen Press and a month later came the first e-mail from Helen Woodall requesting the whole manuscript. By then my mother had been rushed to the hospital with congestive heart failure. I copied my manuscript on my laptop and stayed at the hospital all day, helping my mother drink and eat, and in between, reading, editing and revising. I sent my manuscript to Helen after two weeks.
It was 7:30 am on May 15. Still half asleep from a late night, I saw Helen’s e-mail address on my e-mails and the heading, TO LOVE A HERO. I froze unable to open it and called my husband. He clicked on the e-mail and hugged me before I could even read it. Cerridwen Press would like to offer you a contract. Oh my God. I cried and I laughed. We bought a box of chocolate and took it to the hospital instead of champagne.I was a published author. Finally. I wrote an acceptance letter to Helen, a delirious letter, that was far from professional. That my Matthew has been cheating. Okay, so I knew he was using what's her name as a cover--after all, I am already taken. But he was NOT supposed to get her pregnant. Sigh. It is with much sadness that I'm declaring an end to my fantasy affair with Matthew. I just don't mess around with men who are expectant fathers. Not even in my fantasy world. There's something sacred about a pregnant woman that should be cherished and revered, so....congrats to Matthew and what's her name. ;) I wish you much happiness and success as parents.

Of course, if the rumor turns out not to be true...;)

Actually, I hope it is. I can not imagine being in my late thirties and not having that someone special in my real life (as opposed to my fantasy life occupied with Matthew). I can't imagine not having children. Motherhood is the one thing in my life that I'd hang on to until the very end. My children are my whole world. And as fun as it is to post pictures and to make silly posts about Matthew, I have a good life and would want the same for him--for everyone, really. The world would be a much better place if we were all happy with our personal lives.

I got tickled today because I had several friends--writers and none--send me fun emails. Some of them even signed from "Matthew". LOL. All of them made me laugh out loud. One from my pal Dangergirl totally cracked me up. In that note, "Matthew" was begging for my forgiveness. Of course, I jotted a response back to "Matthew" and told him that we were through and that I planned to take Daniel Craig up on his persistent offers to show me why they call him 007. ;) Currently, I'm playing under the slide with Daniel over at the playground and considering his pleas for me to become Bond girl #1.

FYI, I'm doing a booksigning this weekend from 12-4 at the Coffee County Manchester Public Library. And that night I'll be in Nashville to go to the Dancing with the Stars tour! Woo hoo.
Not that I've ever watched a single episode, but my sister and I are taking our Mom & Dad. My Mom is absolutely crazy about that show and adores Helio. I wish I could have gotten her table seats, but I didn't learn of the show until this week and just bought the tickets last night. Guess I should be grateful we were able to get tickets at all.

I went wayyyyy too long in between blogs that is. :) I never mean to, but sometimes things happen. Like deadlines that sneak up on you and you find yourself literally still working on the book the day it's due. I got it finished and am happy with how it turned out, but it really did come down to the wire. If I'd had to mail it the old fashioned way I'd have been in trouble, though. :)

Book-signings for 2008

I've gotten several requests to know what my booksigning schedule is for 2008 so I thought I would post what I know currently.

On January 19th, I'm participating in a multi-author booksigning at the public library located in Manchester, TN. I'll be signing copies of my first novel, JANE MILLIONAIRE, and should have copies of my first Harlequin Mills & Boon Medical, THE DOCTOR'S PREGNANCY BOMBSHELL, too. One of the other authors participating is a friend who recently published his first book and amazingly asked me to give him a cover quote--how cool is that????

I've also been asked to do a booksigning in McMinnville, TN. I'm thinking that one will likely be scheduled for February. I held a signing here after Jane came out and sold out. It was a great signing so I look forward to going back. I'll post more information on that once details are arranged.

In April, I'll be signing books in Gulf Shores, Alabama and in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

In May, I'll be in Huntsville, Alabama.

In July, I'll be signing in San Francisco, California.

In October, in Newark, New Jersey.

In November, in Birmingham, Alabama at the Homewood Library.

For now, that's all that I'm aware of, but the life of a writer is a fluid thing and one must learn to go with the flow early on. I'll keep my blog updated of my schedule and any changes. If you live in or near these areas, be sure to pop in to say hi!

No worries though if you haven't gotten your copy yet! The US release date is January 1st 2008 and you can get your copy from eharlequin.com at that time. :) Again, it's just me being silly, but OMG! December already?

While I was buried in the play and in revisions of my 4th medical, December snuck up on me. I am SOOOOO far behind with Christmas. I do have a few gifts purchased, but none for my kids...that's a bad Mom, right? Which means what will end up happening is that I'll pay way too much on ebay to get what they really want because all the stores are sold out. Wish it wasn't so, but...

I turned in the revised version of my 4th medical today. It's a really different book for me and although I should be sick of it since I've done 2 rounds of revisions, I find that I love this revised version. The story really packs an emotional punch. I cried when I wrote one particular scene. And again when I reread the story. I'm hoping that's a good sign...of course, it's possible it just means I was in tears over how many hours I put into this book. Truth is I've got more than double the number of man hours in this book than I do in any of my other medicals. I'd guess that I might have close to three times. A little sad, but, as I mentioned, the final product---please let it be the final product---is something that I'm very proud of. I'd like to say that you should have a box of tissues nearby when you read it, but who knows if anyone will find it as moving as me? Y'all will have to let me know come next fall. :)

Making a mad dash by home before heading to Birmingham for the weekend for the Southern Magic Reader's Luncheon, I found a box of goodies from London. Copies of my 2nd book from Harlequin Mills & Boon!! It's always exciting to get books, but when I receive the hardback copies, it's also the first time I see the cover.

Getting a cover is kind of like going on a blind date. You're always hoping for the best, but more worried that you're going to get dog ugly and no personality to boot. I love Jane Millionaire's cover. The Doctor's Pregnancy Bombshell's cover fits the book to a T and the heroine's smile makes me think of Cameron Diaz (who I adore in movies!). This third one is a gorgeous blond guy so no complaints. Well...maybe he's a bit young appearing to be a renowned heart surgeon and to have a fifteen year old son, but hey, this is fantasy. :) Actually, I'm quite pleased as he's a blond. I'd actually worried that if the cover included a hero, he'd be dark headed and Daniel is definitely a blond (and yes in case you are wondering I was inspired by Daniel Craig--remember, I blogged about this some time back and posted a couple sexy pics of the new James Bond.). I'm told it's rare to get a blond on the cover. Blond so works for me...after all, there is Daniel Craig, Matthew McConaughey, David Beckham, the list goes on and on... :)Dare I mention that my dearest pal and roommate this weekend labeled my hero as "Doogie"? Nah, better not mention that.

Moonlight & Magnolia conference in Atlanta

I spent the weekend in Atlanta. Was a great time. For me the conference started off with a talk given by Sue Grimshaw, who is THE romance buyer for Waldenbooks & Borders. Sue gave some really fascinating information about how that side of the industry works and tips for authors.

Kelley St. John attended the conference, too, and it was wonderful to see her! Kelley's on the RWA board this year and was so busy at Nationals I think I only saw her in a whirlwind that could easily have been mistaken for the Tasmanian Devil as she whipped from one place to the next. Kelley writes for Harlequin Blaze and has a wonderfully sexy ghost series. I bought the 3rd book of the series this weekend and had her autograph it and can't wait to read it!Friday evening I went out with my agent the fabuloso Deidre Knight & with some pals including Kristen Painter (who I hadn't seen since we did our horrendous 60 mile walk in Atlanta to raise money for breast cancer research). We went to Stoney River and the food was awesome. I got prime rib & potatoes & broccoli. Delicious. Oh, and the rolls tasted like doughnuts. Yes, I ate one. Just one, but I would have liked to have devoured the entire basket. :)

I got back to my hotel room after ten and pulled out the ole laptop and got a bit of writing done prior to my roommate arriving back from dinner with her agent. For me, the best part of the entire weekend was getting to see my roommate, Kathleen Long (yes, the fabulously famous Harlequin Intrigue author and the romantic comedy author of Get Bunny Love & Cherry on Top!!!). Kathleen and I really hit the conferences regularly prior to our selling, but the past two years we've slowed down on our traveling due to family commitments, writing deadlines, etc. Unbelievably 11 months had gone by since I last saw her. :( There are problems with your closest pals living thousands of miles away. :( Anyway, getting to hang out with her really brightened my weekend. :) We sat up chatting way, way too late that night.

The next morning was more workshops, a luncheon where the one and only Linda Howard spoke--yes, she really is awesome!! And then there was a multi-author booksigning. My Wet Noodle Posse pal (and recently sold young adult author & American Title finalist for this year!) Trish Milburn is in line to buy C.L. Wilson's book & I got to catch up with her some this weekend, too. It was also very cool to get to see my playpal C.L. Wilson signing Lord of the Fading Lands (if you haven't read this book you absolutely MUST read it--it's that good). I bought an autographed copy to keep on my keeper shelf of my Writers Playground playpals books.That night was the Maggie Award ceremony, but I was bad and skipped it. Okay, so I was having dinner with Kathleen, Terry McLaughlin (of the SUPER-de-duper Harlequin Super romances), C.L. Wilson, Delores Fossen (Harlequin Intrigue), and a couple of authors I met for the first time this weekend. After dinner, Kathleen and I retired to our room and plotted on how to commit murder. Okay, so you have to remember that she writes romantic suspenses and, well, uhm, yeah, moving on... ;) Actually, it was great fun because it's so different from what I write (fun and sassy contemporaries and high drama, emotional medicals) and she has this most amazing story idea. I don't foresee myself ever having a career writing suspenses, but I have to admit I did enjoy myself as I listened to her plot--I think that book comes out in October of 2008, so look for it. :)

Today, Kathleen and I slept late then checked out of the hotel. I drove her to the airport and then headed home. Being around other writers always leaves me feeling refreshed, makes me want to dig in and start the next book. I'm off to do just that...

Another year older...

I've quit counting birthdays but those around me insist upon reminding me when yet another comes. I celebrated my ?? birthday yesterday. It was an awesome day spent with my family. My parents came over and brought a cake, complete with candles for me to blow out--no one even called the fire department. I got this really cool outdoor table set that is this heavy duty stone tile top that has a removable center that has a firepit. Last night me, hubby, & the kids roasted hot dogs over the fire and then made smores. Was lots of fun. :) Even if it did leave me having to say I'm another year older. :(

Copy edits & White water rafting

Sounds exciting, eh? Well, first the white water rafting. I went this past weekend with hubby and our two oldest boys. Very fun. I've been quite a few times in the past, but I brought a friend with me who'd never been--that's her below after our trip down river--see, she survived!! Actually, she's hooked now and ready to go back. Me, too. The water was icy and felt so good. It's been 100+ every day this week. Tonight at 7 PM it was still 102 degrees according to my vehicle's thermometer and 105 according to the bank's. Oh my. And we've not had a drop of rain for the entire month of August and had very little during July. Can you say drought? Rain, rain, come here please.

My oldest son was in charge of his raft and they named themselves The Black Squirrel. While in the gift shop, I ran across this doggie kerchief and couldn't resist. We all thought it too funny. :)

Copy edits. I got the copy of The Doctor's Meant-To-Be Marriage and went through it over the past several days. Last night I turned in my copy edits. Nothing major, just a few typos here and there. I'm always so paranoid I'll miss something, though, and it'll end up in every book and be one of those typos that makes everybody snicker or roll their eyes, ya know?

As I mentioned previously, my dog was recently killed. Very sad and something I've shed many a tear over. My family will always miss and love our Trouble dog. Because he was such a special part of our lives we wanted another dog and have added an adorable puppy named Lilly to our family. My daughter was teasing her last night with a blade of grass which Lilly would tug at and play with. We're enjoying her sweet, playful personality. :)

I recently sold to Harlequin Mills & Boon again in a 3 book deal!! Woo hoo!!! The first book of the contract is done and turned in and is titled The Doctor's Meant to be Marriage and will be a May 2008 release. Happy dancing in Tennessee!!!

I have a cover!!!!!!!! On Friday I got mail for the very first time at the new house and guess what came???? Hardcover copies of my first Harlequin Mills & Boon Medical!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited & have to share. Okay, so yes, it's been a week, but I've not had internet (Moving is the pits for any of you who aren't aware of this!!) so I'm just now getting back online. Moving...

So, life is a bit busy. Bet you hadn't noticed, eh? :) We bought a house. Well, us and the bank are buying our dream house next week. I'm excited and a bit scared, too. Going in debt does that to a person. I'll post pictures after we sign the papers.

I'm working on revisions for my third medical romance. Have I mentioned how much I adore my editor at Mills & Boon? She's so great and really focuses in on ways to make the story better. I should finish the revisions this weekend and have them turned in by Monday morning. Before the moving starts--yea!

On July 10th, I go to Dallas for a week. Yes, this is when my family is moving. Going to be very interesting to come home and it be a different home. We've been in our current house for fifteen years and my children haven't known anywhere else. Lots of happy and sad emotions go into leaving our current home. Anyway, Dallas. :) It's time for the RWA National conference which means I'll get to hang out with lots of really cool romance authors and industry professionals. AND I GET TO SEE MY FRIENDS. Most of my bestest friends in the world are romance authors. Unfortunately most of us live in different states and only see each other in person a few times a year. On the 10th I get to see my buds and I'm soooo looking forward to seeing them.

I've sold my fifth book since my last post. :) I'm not sure of release dates and such, but I'm really excited at the prospect of having another book come out during the next year . The Doctor's Pregnancy Bombshell comes out in November and I'll likely have a cover within the next month or so. Waiting for a cover is like wondering what your kids are going to look like because each and every story an author writes is a 'baby'.

It's late and I'm rambling on, but I wanted to try to ketch-up a little and to let my pals who read my blog in on what's going on in my life, basically, the moving bug. :)

Ketching-Up

Well, not really, but you know what I mean.

I'm really psyched. I bought my formal gown for the RWA National convention. It's a really, really gorgeous dress and I'll post pictures of it after the convention in July. :) Got to find some really cool shoes to go with it still though.

And, drum roll please, I bought my first Prada purse. Yes, I paid way too much for it and probably should have spent my money on better things, but I decided just this once to splurge on myself and now I'm all giggles. :() ) I'll post a picture of it soon. Okay, so maybe I'll post a picture of me carrying my purse.

We've got lots of Memorial day stuff going on this weekend, with multiple cook-outs. Which probably means blowing our diet, but hey, I'm 11-12 pounds down, so I might splurge a little and not feel too guilty. Of course, I might find those lost pounds in the process.

GOT to finish up my article that I sold to the RWR magazine. My deadline's still over a month away, but I don't like rushing things so I plan to have it done within the next week. Wish me luck.

Jessie went to his first television show audition this week. He's really excited. Although the liklihood of landing a show on the first audition is next to nil, auditioning was really good experience for him. And you have to start somewhere, right? Anyway, the show is on the Discovery Channel, which he thinks is the coolest anyway. Guess we'll know within a couple of weeks if he's made it to the next round--or however that works. I'm still learning.

We'd planned to go to see PotC tonight, but plans changed and we're relaxing at home, instead, and looking at houses on the internet. Unfortunately the house we put a bid in on didn't go through. :( We really like it, but it's just out of our price range so we're back to looking.

Well, I suppose I have procrastinated from writing about as long as I can justify for one night. Off to write, write, write. Y'all have a great weekend.
